Oh its a jolly holiday…

The winter makes me wish for a holiday. Especially this month. February is a difficult month i think as the weather seems to never know what to do. We have had warm, sunny days when the daffodils are out and acting all spring like and then its baltic freezing winds that cut through you like a knife. I can just do without it.

So i start thinking holidays….hmmmm…warm…sunshine, flip flops, vest tops and that lingering smell of suncream.

This time of year we start talking about our holiday plans..holidaying with 5 kids isnt exactly easy or cheap but its nice to get away and try and have a break..(although break isnt always how it feels!). For me, its a balancing act. We need to keep it within a reasonable budget but sitting on a beach in summer wearing your jumper and a rain mac is not my idea of a summer break. Which largely rules out this country. I know that the kids don’t need the heat though, they just dont feel the cold in the same way. But then they aren’t spending two hours paddling, ankle deep in an outdoor pool with a swift breeze blowing round your swimming costumed self.

Opt for outside this country and you are looking a LONG drive or flying and that just bumps up your price. Oh yeah you can fly on those super cheap fares but we ALL know that they never stay super cheap. Adding taxes for standing in the airport, food on the plane even going to the loo on the plane. It all gets pretty steep!!

So what do you do and where do you go? What has worked well for you and your family in the past or where are you planning this year?

We have opted for a long Ferry journey again – mostly paid for with vouchers. This time we have gone with the Sun holidays – family of 6 abroad in July for 4 nights has cost around £250 including insurances/breakdown. That’s with a people carrier with a roof box.

We did Disneyland before that and the drive tired me out and made me grouchy.
At Duinrell it has lots for the kids and so not much for us to do, and felt like a holiday.

Happy planning and thanks for co hosting 🙂

I wouldn’t say I had a “favourite”. When I was younger (with my family) we’d always go to Spain. Now, I just want to see the world!

I have four children, so I know just what you mean! I find the simpler the better, strangely. My mum has a small house in France which has no tv, no internet, and is a ten minute drive from the beach. After a day of grumbling they end up pootling around with sticks and being very low tech and having a lovely time. This year I’m thinking of a Scottish island and big deserted beaches, the dog and wellie boots. (And crossing fingers for good weather!)

We are off to Center Parcs AGAIN! I just can’t face travelling too far with my 3 and they love CP. It is easy and we are going with friends in a next door lodge so it should be a laugh.

Sun would be nice though…..maybe Italy one year….in the very distant future….!

I love Morocco for its culture, colours and scenery. I love the contrast of snow in the hot weather as I trek up the Atlas, all due to the albedo effect. It’s an amazing country will so much life to it due to the Islamic religion and I love the unity where everyone does their 5 prayers a day together. There is a lot of globalisation but behing it all are the mountains, the rivers and lakes that makes the place shine. I want to go back already.

We managed Munich for under £1000 (plus expenses but as we were staying in a self-catered flat that can be kept fairly low!) and I think this could be managed for Paris, I was really surprised as how good value for money self-catering is over there (there are lots of flats on offer). Something I could never do (house is too much of a mess) but can get you great holidays anywhere for a low budget : house swap…

My perfect holiday is in the countryside in the UK in a lovely little cottage surrounded by either fields or woodland. I’m not one for sitting around sunbathing – I love wildlife and love to be out walking and exploring nature. It never fails to amaze me, there is always something different to see.
After a long days exploring and then dinner in a country pub, it would be nice to have a nice warm soak in a bath with some lovely Lush goodies 😉
