so i didn't drop off the earth….well not really…
we have been on our holidays and i neglected to say that on the old blogola, i had planned to do little travelling updates but the internet access was sketchy and there got to a point when i thought 'nah..'
We have been to France. We got back this afternoon and i dont really know what to say about the holiday because it was not exactly what we had expected and im not sure how many details to give. So how about this, we do a pro and con list. yeah?
Pro's about being on holiday
1. the sun – i know i go on about the weather, but really i have discovered that i love it warm…i like the sun, i like the no rain and i like to sit in the sun and rock on.
2. the beaches – we have beaches here but you know, the north sea aint the atlantic lets face it and its much prettier looking at the breakers on the beach than the oil rigs off in the distance
3. Campsite kids – our kids went all 'campsite' they toured around on bikes, scooters and didnt get buzzed by people driving cars too fast or dog poo on the floor. We let them wander around bear foot in the sandy soil and they looked dirty but they looked healthy too.
4. No schedule – i love that. although certain circumstances meant that we had an element of that.
5. Swimming – we have apparently bred a couple of water dwellers. Our three would quite happily swim, slide, dive, splash and basically be near water all the time. They loved every second of being in the pool or the sea. They grew in confidence and had a blast.
6. Reading – i read and read and read, something i rarely get a chance to do. I read some great books which ill talk about another time and some not so great but entertaining anyway books and the time when i sat in the sun and got lost in my book were some of my most favourite moments.
Cons about being on holiday
1. the rain – yes we did get rain and it was overcast. The sun did shine for probably more than half of the holiday but there were days when it was out for a while and the vanished behind some clouds.
2. Sewage drains- yeah…drains, lets just say the ones under the mobile home didnt work and in fact had a split in it…..
3. No available accomodation! – that sounds weird right? well the point above might give you an idea why we had to move accomodation half way through our holiday??
4. Stress – see points 2 and 3
5. Noisy campsites and skinny beds – we actually got relocated to a different campsite after the 'drain' incident and it was far noisier than the first, and excuse me Canvas but a single bed cannot be defined as something about a foot wide..AHEM!
6. Swimming – yeah i know its on the pro list too and there is a reason, because the weather was a bit unpredictable and overcast and most of the pools are outside, it got a tad chilly paddling around in knee deep water with the girls or standing at the top of slides with Isaac!
So all in all not what you anticipate from a holiday, there were some other problems as well and suffice to say i think that Canvas, the company we went with will be getting a pretty stern letter.
BUT we are back, we made it, the kids loved it, even being moved out of their beds two nights running because the drains were in a slow decline. Isaac learned to ride without stabiliers and is now incredibly confident on a bike. Poppy taught herself how to ride a bike with incredible determination and a good few bruises. They loved the sand, the sea and company. The have that wonderful sun kissed look that i love, Maisie's hair has blonde highlights and Poppy has gone a beautiful strawberry blonde. Isaac tried out his french with great confidence by the end of our holiday and Ben managed a great deal of his own 'francais'
so there that was our holiday. I did take pictures, of course. But i leave you with one of my favourite pictures. This was taken the l'ile de papillions. (island of butterflies) and it was a totally enchanting place. This butterfly was on Isaac's hand.
