a bit of a rant..

yeah 'cos all sunshine and no rain is not good for anyone….

Today they had 'circus' day at our lovely little school. So the letter came home on friday to find out something to do with the circus and then 'dress up' in something to do with the circus….

which…is….great…

unless you have a child that hates dressing up! That would be easy i hear you cry, just tell him not to dress up. Well we did, but thing to remember is that we are talking about a 6 year old who is well aware that his classmates will be dressing up so want to fit in but actually wants to be himself to….

So i tried to pre-empt this, we have been here before, and i asked him last night what he wanted to do about it and he found every possible way to avoid listening/answering etc. So i left it and sure enough this morning he was sat in the middle of the kitchen floor stressing his little head what to do about it.

and there is little Mummy can do about it half an hour before the school bell right?

Eventually i managed to convince him that by going in just his jeans and t shirt he would look like possibly a juggler who was practising and then by taking some circus poi loaned from our lodger he could use them in school as his trick.

He grumbled, fretted and moaned all the way to school….

Now I understand that the teachers are trying to make it interesting for the kids and get them involved i get it. But the letter home made no mention of what to do if your child doesnt want to dress up….

Its not fair, forcing him into it felt wrong and stressed me out and him out and did neither of us any good…believe me.

So I was mad…and i walked home from dropping the girls off at nursery ( who ironically had dressed up because i mentioned it!) formulating my letter to the headteacher describing how i think they are not considering a childs individuality and right to choose…

But for now im just voicing it here….
