today on facebook…

i posted this comment:

Question: near 5 month old falls asleep in cot… You hear a pump followed by what is likely a nappy/diaper filler….do you wake baby up to change or not?

you would have seen it if you are on facebook and my friend…and if you are not on facebook then….

why not?…

Anyway i got a lot of replies, which if im honest i thought i would…because a lot of my friends are mummys and daddys and sleep is a hot potatoe for us all right?

It was fun seeing everyones responses but to be fair my mind was already made up, which i guess most people posting probably already knew. My basic caveat is 'never wake a sleeping baby'

She had absolutely filled her pants, it was an overnight nappy and there was a high chance of leakage…as there is generally with J at the moment…jet propeller in her pants i think.

BUT….

I would always take the extra washing and complete change of clothing when baby does actually wake up in exchange for more sleepy boos.

unless of course i was camping, had no means of washing anything and had nothing clean for baby to wear…and even then when that has happened…and im sure it has…there has been at the very least a cerebral attempt to find a way to make it work… "can i realistically put a 5 month old in  2 year old clothes for the day'  'can i wrap her in a blanket all day?" 'does she need clothes?' 'how close is the nearest supermarket and will everyone look at me when i take my baby wrapped in a blanket in to buy it some clothing?'

yeah…so…

the only real exemption from this rule will mean nothing to non NICU peeps but waking up that 'demandfeeder2.5kiloheadingforhypoglyceamia' baby would not fit my caveat. The other time is slightly different and i feel doesnt really fit into the 5 month category anyway but when babies are teething and they have those horrendous acid poops that pretty much burn a layer of skin away….change change change….and apply cream in copious amounts..and give teething gel, pain relief etc because if they are teething like that they are for sure going to be calling you back throughout the night and your sleep is pretty much screwed.

So….I did let her sleep….

She slept for a further hour or so i think…

it had gone through her vest, grow and sleeping bag….

My wonderful husband bought me a cup of tea and because we had no ballet/gym insanity this saturday i stayed in bed till just after 8.

and the angels they did sing…..

Pip is just getting up once in night at mo. I don’t change her and she is wet through to her sheet in the morning, I simply change her and wash her bedding. sleep is too precious, she’s not sore and not bothered, bless x
