Meme: Music as therapy…

I have been tagged by a fellow twitterer friend and mummy blogger. So im here to play along because its a pretty good one actually.

This was started by another blogger who suddenly discovered her musical input on a daily basis was limited to cbeebies. I can relate to that. Although im far less tolerant of it than i used to be. Don't mind the number raps and the season songs they do but all the title music…meh…

Mind you, i do listen to music A LOT. We all listen to music, im not a musician but i love music. There is a short amount of time in the day when i don't have music on. Its mostly the radio i have to say. All of my kids have been able to hum along to the Radio 2 jingles at a fairly early age. ..yeah.. so it would be far cooler to say Radio 1…but you know…it is what it is..

I love listening to the radio. I have discovered music on the radio that i would never have ordinarily come across…a year or so ago i heard this song by a guy called Ben montague. Found him on facebook fan page and ended up helping out promoting a tour he did.

So this meme really appeals to me and it got me thinking what songs would i choose. Here is the idea..

Pick:

3 beautiful songs.

3 different bands.

3 sets of lyrics that touch you in anyway you want to show.

Firstly just to say im all about the song and not the band. If i like the song thats good enough for me. Seriously, it took me months of singing along to 'Patience' on the radio before i ever realised it was the newly re-formed take that…yeah..really.

because if the song connects with me, i dont really care who it is doing the singing. I mean with the Ben montague song i so loved the raw emotion and sadness in the song that i did google him and find out who he was and if he had an album. But largely ill go with the song and sometimes be surprised when i find out actually who is singing it.

so number 1 – this song meant so much to me about a year ago when were rather thrown by some news that changed our direction as a family. I still can't listen to it without remembering how low i was at times then and how these words fed my battered soul with some hope. You can listen to it here with the lyrics, sorry wouldn't let me embed it.

Michael Buble – Hold on.

Didn't they always say we were the lucky ones?
I guess that we were once
Babe, we were once

But luck will leave you cause
It is a faithless friend
And in the end when life has got you down
You've got someone here that you can wrap your arms around

So hold on to me tight
Hold on to me tonight
We are stronger here together
Than we could ever be alone
So hold on to me
Don't you ever let me go

There's a thousand ways for things to fall apart
But it's no one's fault
No it's not my fault

Maybe all the plans we made would not work out
But I have no doubt even though it's hard to see
I've got faith in us and I believe in you and me

So hold on to me tight
Hold on, I promise it'll be alright
Cause it's you and me together
And baby all we've got is time
So hold on to me, hold on to me tonight

There's so many dreams that we have given up
Take a look at all we've got
And with this kind of love
What we've got here is enough

So hold on to me tight
Hold on, I promise it'll be alright
Cause we are stronger here together
Then we could ever be alone
Just hold on to me
Don't you ever let me go
Hold on to me, it's gonna be alright
Hold on to me tonight
They always say we were the lucky ones

Number 2 –

Athlete – You know.

this song was really significant for me when i had my last baby – who most of you would know was a huge shock to us. All of my kids have their 'own' song. Its either a song that was around and playing a lot in the lead up to their birth or a song that just really meant a lot to us when they were born. This song was on the radio when i was pg with my last baby and the words in this song are in a way a promise that my heart was making to her even though there were days when i didn't feel like it. It was also was a note to my bewildered self to remember that sometimes you just can't make sense out of why things happen the way they do. I did  'her first seven days' video of clips and photos and i ran that song over the top. You can watch and listen if you fancy it πŸ™‚

You are loved and you know you are

Yeah you know you know you know you are
And you know you know you know you are
You'll endure and you know you will
Yeah you know you know you know you will
And you know you know you know you will

But you can't count it on your fingers cos there's more than you think
You can't use your head to figure cos there's much too much
For our little minds to deal with
So lets get it up
You will reap and you know you will
Yeah you know you know you know you will
And you know you know you know you will

But please don't every try to
Count it on your fingers cos there's more than you think
You can't use your head to figure cos there's much too much
For our little minds to deal with so lets get it up

But you can't count it on your fingers cos there's more than you think
just try
you can't use your head to figure
yeah yeah
cos there's much too much
yeah
For our little minds to deal with so lets get it up

One two three
Give it up, lift your hands, everybody
Give it up, lift your hands, everybody everybody

number 3 –

to be a bit more light- hearted…

Hairspray Cast – You can't stop the beat.

I love this song, we put it on loud and boogey around the kitchen to it. We do that a lot anyway, my girls are dancers, my boy can throw a shape or two as well..and this song brings them all running into the kitchen to slide up and down. Those are the sort of memories i hope they cherish, i know i do.

It is such a fun song but has that sense of importance and defiance as it is about racial integration. Im all for a bit of uprising and especially against something as stupid as the colour of your skin defining where you can sit on a bus…

(some of the lyrics below…my favourite ones..because its a loooong song!)

Oh oh oh
You can't stop today
As it comes speeding down the track
Child, yesterday is history
And it's never coming back

'Cause tomorrow is a brand new day
And it don't know white from black
'Cause the world keeps spinning
'Round and 'round
And my heart's keeping time
To the speed of sound
I was lost til i heard the drums
Then i found my way
'Cause you cant stop the beat

Anyway..those are my three….for now..because i can think of loads more. So i will, for sure be joining in with this one again.

If you fancy it, grab the idea and run with it..dont wait to be tagged. πŸ™‚

Go!

Britmums: Hopes and dreams..

BritMums - Leading the Conversation

I guess im late with this britmums post this week. I've been putting it off. Thinking and writing about hopes and dreams is a tough one for me at the moment.

Because, in truth, that part of me..you know the bit that 'dares to believe' has gone a bit dark, hibernating i guess. Im not depressed or wallowing or sorry for myself (well not all the time!) but that glimmer of hope, the promise and expectancy of 'having a dream' is sort of on the back burner…for a number of different reasons. Mostly because what i had always thought of and believed in as my dreams, what i had been aiming for seems fairly unobtainable at the moment and so for me…my hope would be that i might find some way out of hibernating and stretch those muscles in the warm sun & maybe catch hold of a glimmer of reverie

For the children…its all the old cliche wishes and more. Mostly i wish for them to be content.

Because that is a good place to be.

β€œWhen you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.”

discovered the gallery..

I noticed this on twitter..don't you just l-uh-uh-ove twitter. :))

Started by a mummy blogger and runs every week. I am in like flynn as they say.

Check out the picture of the lens cup at the bottom of this post and click on it if you want to know more. Oh and btw i want one of those mugs!

This week the theme is faces. Which is right up my street and through the porch, front door and into the kitchen. I love faces, its probably the thing that i love most about photography. Capturing that look on someones face, its a cliche but the eyes are the mirror of the soul and sometimes you look into the eyes and see such emotion it can take your breath away.

One of my favourite pictures of all time was a picture of an old friend of mine when we were at school, or maybe just left and she was laughing and i always look at that picture and hear her laugh. I need to find that picture.

But for this weeks entry into the gallery, is one of my favourite faces, being incredibly patient as i muck out with camera settings for some beautiful autumn light we are being blessed with this week. You can tell how impatient she is getting by how her smile becomes even more forced. bless her. Ha

ten on tuesday….

is it still tuesday?

Ten

1. We went to a local park today and the light was just beautiful. Perfect autumn day and bonus is it hasn't even been that cold today!

its a cliche i know but i can't help but be freaked out by how grown up she is in this picture. Of course, she is still in nappies and she is well, well over 2 and a half..which i think is the sort of cut off for all respectable parents….well….

meh….

2. My beautiful girl…gosh now she really is growing up..

Maisiecourtheyw
3. I had a photoshoot today…and i had forgotten the time…i thought it was later, it was actually earlier. Mum and baby arrived and the photographer was…still in the shower!! Oops. Fortunately mum was a little early and so we swiftly set up and the shoot came out just fine. Phew. Need to check check times.

4. I am fairly busy at the moment with shoots, which is great. Trying to learn as i go and read read read..but i just need more time in the day….

5. Half term usually marks slow starts for us in this house. But our older girls are part of a ballet school that is putting on a show in November and so they are up early for rehersals….not quite as early as the school run but not far off….

6. Music for today?

fairly uninspired choice i know, but this is a great running song.

7. I was thinking of this for a few people for christmas this year but the reviews are not so great. What do you think steve jobs

8. We watched this movie with the kids this week. Really good, they all loved it. My kids (well one in or two in particular) are not big on films with scary 'baddies' in them, which i don't think is that bad a thing..but this was a good watch. Also little insightful moment when the lead animal type character says 'We eat to live, the humans live to eat!'

9. Eggs…this time i managed to crush 9 of them in the shopping trollet, not enough so that they went everywhere but enough to know that they were either for the bin or a good egg cook up that evening. My kids are not real fans of eggs on their own. So quick victoria sandwich and batch of brownies…so much for that diet eh?

10. Laslty my not so little son. Turned 9 a few weeks ago. 9! For goodness sake. He told me what high school he would like to go to the other day. Er…no…we will be having none of that nonsense talk, Far too young..far too young…

He was made up to get an email from a friend of his who lives overseas this week and he has been pestering me about going to see him. 'We could just go for the weekend?' If only it was actually that simple right?
