‘if i had one whole day to myself….’ Britmums prompt.

taking part in the first part of the Britmums blogging prompts again…

6a00e55455c9358833014e8c466405970d.jpg.jpg

its taken me a while to start this post. Mostly because when i think of having a whole day to myself, i just sort of glaze over, stare into space and nothing in particular and everything comes in to my head…and it all sort of goes..blank…fzzzz…ptttt..

Just to be clear that isn't because i wouldn't want to have a whole day to myself. Er..hELLO! But i just can't think of something because i can think of so many things that would be good. Sort of like id imagine i would feel if someone asked me what i wanted for my last meal.I could come up with so many possibilities i'd probably confuse myself, shrug my shoulders and say 'er..beans on toast?'

So anyway… I have come to this conclusion. The last time i had a day to myself (well sort of a day) school hours. I went to Manchester and was part of a group of aspiring photographers who were being tutored by an experienced and fabulous pro. You can read about it here. I also did a similar day with another amazing pro photographer in the summer of 2010(here) and my feeling from both those days was that i got to USE my brain, as in I AM WOMAN. I CAN LEARN. UG.

My mind was buzzing with stuff other than…meals, school uniforms, lunches, has she eaten enough, is he being bullied, are we making the right choices….we all sing from a very similar sheet as parents and most of us often miss our successes because the kids change so much that the wonderful moment when it all dropped into place is so minute because before we know it we are slamming into a new challenge. .Parenting is a hands on, learn as you go 'cos you have to, type job. Learning something that you are just interested in because it excites you is different.

On these two days, i didn't think about parenting. I did think about my kids, obviously, especially when i often get introduced as 'yeah..she is the one with FIVE kids' :)

I had head space to think about something that is new, that i am learning, that im loving and that gave me that rush of butterflies both times when i drove to the studios to meet up with a bunch of people i had never met before. Its a scary but very very good feeling and for this mama who has worked in the same place and been doing this mothering  for over ten years now, it was one heck of a rush.

And something like that is what i would do with my whole day to myself.

ten on tuesday….

my goodness that time again. New thing if you want to link in..you can..click on the link at the bottom and add your details. Lets see if it works!

Ten

1. We are partied out here. We have three children's birthdays within 3 weeks of each other (think of that what you will!) and so it has been busy and exhausting and now we have a break till just after christmas. Which i would enjoy but i have the faint sound of jingle bells in my ears….*sigh*

2. This week, yet again, we have had some fine example of daft driving by parents. Why do they do that? Its not difficult. Indicate when you pull out, don't mount the kerb with your 'oh-so-big-what-im not- really -driving- in- a -field?' vehicles, assume that those two yellow lines on the road mean that there is a good reason why you shouldn't park there & remember that we are all after the same goal here, kids in the school safe and on time – so the on time bit is a bit sketchy – but man, there is no need to act like the school run is a motorised version of musical chairs and there are only two chairs left. We can all find a space people! 🙂

3.Have you noticed? its a bit different round here on my blog. This is very much a work in progress. Im trying to change it up a bit here and yeah..im not so keen on the bright green either – but at the moment i have no idea how to change it. Theres a long boring reason for the layout change and i wont go into it because it involved a couple of hours of me sat, staring, hair pulling, crying and frustratingly being directed to the typepad homepage when i put my question in. But here it is, temporarily like this.

4. So i like to bring a bit of music along each tuesday and heard this on the radio this morning and thought. What a great song that is, takes me back to my Uni days. Still.So.Good.

5. So anyone seen the Footloose film yet? is it here on these shores as yet? Im just wondering what its like. I have to say i cannot see myself going to see it. Mostly because I am SUCH a die hard fan of the original. That film started my love of the VW bug and my AHEM little crush on Kevin Bacon. Don't know if i can take anyone else playing Ren. But the other reason for not seeing it is because hahahahaha…time to go out to the cinema? hahahahahhaaa..ha…ha

6. Did you see the news about the lady who ran a Marathon at 39 weeks pregnant and then went and gave birth the same day! Either she is super duper fit or she was just so desperate to no longer be pregnant that she thought 'run a marathon, that'll shift this thing!'  Guessing she will be pinging back into those size 8 jeans faster than any celebrity. Im half in awe and half freaked by what running 26 miles carrying a 3.5kg baby is going to do to that poor woman's uterus. Holy prolapse batman!

7. I so love twitter. Funny how it can take you a while to 'get' something. I didn't 'get' it at all and now it makes sense and i think i like it a lot more than facebook.

8. A primary school up the road caught fire a few weeks back and it wasn't until about a week later when i noticed there were far fewer parents doing the school run, the lollipop man wasn't around and in fact, oh yes i had heard fire engines walking home one afternoon last week, that i finally put two and two together. I should think with those sort of observational skills i could have an alternative career as a detective. no?

9. I posted a question on twitter about eggs. I had thought a while ago when buying eggs and noticing that supermarkets keep them in general non-refrigerated aisles whether or not they should be kept in a fridge. Well you know, fridges have those little egg cup holder things in them right? I think the response i got on FB and twitter was one of the highest ive had and so i realise this must be a concern for many people 🙂  I have summised that yes you can keep them in a fridge but actually you dont need to and for baking they should always be room temperature. Bringing you public service announcements day by day.

10. The weather today has been at war with itself. Im not a great fan of the british climate. I may have said that once or twice but on days like today i cannot help but roll my eyes…a..lot. Pick a weather and stick with it for at least a few hours k?

this week baby i promise…

so what started as a bit of a novelty has now become something i think about at the beginning of the week and usually have great ideas which sometimes wane a bit when i think about the reality of keeping it up for a week..

has to be serious y'all 😉

aaaand you might have noticed that mumofone who hosts this every week has a new badge which quite frankly is so cute, its a good enough reason to play along just to stick on the old blogola every week. and btw..i want one, i want one, i want one…

So this week baby i promise…

to yes, let you take all the plastic, tupperware, old never used bottles and teats, sippy cups and assorted mis-matched lids and boxes out of the cupboard and play with them for as much time as you want without spazzing out about the mess and the inevitable challenge that awaits me when i try to do your siblings pack ups and can't find anything that remotely goes together.
