nice to be able to send the kids out to burn some energy on the tramp, which quite frankly is looking like it has seen some better days but then three kids and friends giving it some for over two years has taken its toll i guess…
ewwwwwwww……
ten on tuesday….
1. Getting your baby a passport is never…i repeat…never a simple procedure, nor pleasurable or cheap but alas if you wish to vacation away from this fair isle…it has to be done. Hand over the cash, spend a morning running round like headless chicken and congrats you are a british citizen….er…yey
2. Leaving your baby downstairs by itself is often a bad idea..you may come back and find this…
what? is there something on my face? That would be sudocrem and she ate a small pot of it…yes….ate….
3. This made me giggle today marmite those of you who think Marmite is evil…be warned!
4. Our car decided to give itself a short break on monday and i had to abandon all my passport fixing plans…see above and walk to nursery..oh via a shop because we had no nappies etc….the buggy just about bore the strain…
it worked later on that day okay after a little charging of the battery.
5. I asked a friend of mine to act as a counter signature for Matilda's passport and she has chickens…we used to have them when i was a kid and it made me start to wonder if we should..
6. Sniffly, coughing and spluttering, hot foreheads, earaches and general grumpiness describes the small people of this house at the moment. Just waiting to see if it hits the bigs….
7. Thinking maybe, possibly that spring might just be on its way…
8. Maisie bought the school bear home again….this is the third time we have had it and im sure there must be a limit to how many times one child can have it. The idea is that your child takes the teddy bear home and has a nice afternoon and evening with it and documents it with pictures and writing in a diary. That is your four/ five year old who just started school and is still doing the f-f-f-phonetics……homework for parents.
9. At the moment im living for the day when i can go to a supermarket and remember everything i need….yes even with a list, before you say it.
10. I really really like this. Trying to find a way of justifying it…which of course means justifying the postage from the US. Anyone know anywhere this side that sells that sort of thing?
Tis all for now, i must away to my bed. Bless the marmite.
brb xx
so to the soup…
this is based on a Jamie Oliver recipe (ministry of food) – i say based on because i dont think i have ever actually made it the exact way of the recipe…which really isnt me being spontaneous or anything..usually i dont have certain ingredients and i either leave them out or add something else that i think might do….
so here we are…this is Sweet Potato, Butternut squash and chorizo soup. I usually make a load and freeze it. Im not that good with quantities when it comes to soups either..just bung it in and see what you get..but…nevertheless…
you need:
2 carrots
2 sticks of celery ( i never use this, we dont eat celery, no-one likes it here..so i use onions)
2 gloves of garlic (or two teaspoons of lazy garlic)
800gms sweet potato
a medium size squash
200gms choirzo sausage
parsley
olive oil
heaped teaspoon of curry powder
1.8 ltrs of chicken or veg stock
salt and pepper
and some fresh red chill if you are feeling sassy!
so you need something like this to start. This is my all time favourite pan to cook with. Its a beast of a thing and its not a one arm lift kinda item but i love it.
Maisie came by and asked me why i was putting a horseshoe in the tea? Word to the wise..butternut squash..one of my all time favs..pain in the **** to peel and chop yes? Well good news is you dont need to do that, you can leave the skin on and it gives a lovely texture to the soup, just make sure it is well cooked. Or you can roast the squash in the oven and scoop out the lovely orange stuff in the middle. Bit of a faff but if you hate the peeling but dont want the skin…its the way…
so put your pan on a high heat, throw in the olive oil and all your chopped ingredients and some curry powder, about a tablespoon and i used this one…
once you have done that let it all cook for about 10 mins till the carrots are softening. The pour in the stock
After that you can use a hand blender to puree the soup and then add water if you want it thinner. Scatter your finely chopped chilli into the bowl and there it is….
although…
I add a tin of tomatoes and a spoonful of this…
so love this ingredient…..so both the tomatoes and the red onions make the soup a little sweeter which is more palatable for my 'eeewwwww' kids. So put in, leave out, its your call.
and its your soup…
We serve this up, usually with some fresh bread and its gone in seconds.
Brilliant
brb 🙂
doing what boys do…..
early sunday morning…
Isaac's new mantra is…
"Can I have a X wing fighter from Ebay mum?'
I must have heard that at least 100 times since last thursday.
He is just not going to give up.
Not only that, he is suffering the injustice of knowing that his father who had a large amount of star wars toys when he was a kid..up and sold them when he was 14.
Isaac looks at Ben with such an incredulous look and says 'I cant believe you didn't save them for me?'
