Years that are lived well…

I went to a funeral last friday of a friend, a guy i shared a house with when i first came here. I mentioned him in another post two weeks ago. The service was in their church in the wild, and very cold Yorkshire hills and we all, his friends and family, journeyed there from all over to honour and rejoice his life.

The words that stayed with me throughout the service were spoken in a prayer….’we are here to celebrate Rich, his life, of 40 years lived well’   There was never a truer statement of Rich. He was an active, happy, genuine and brave. He pursued his dreams with courage. He lived a full life.

I have been thinking over the past two days..’do i live well?’ Do i make the most of this life, this short amount of time. Do i value what matters most or do i place to much value on that which does not. Am i chasing my dreams or are they dormant, forgotten at the bottom of the sock drawer. Will i be able to look back at my life and say the same words?

I hope so.

One of my minor aims this year was to start to get some of our family images printed. I take thousands of photos and, as is the curse of the digital age, they sit, unseen on my computer hard drive and my goal was to change that and get some beautiful art work to hang in our house. I was inspired further to do this when I saw the order of service for Rich. He was a photographer of the great ‘film’ age and his beautiful images have been hung in galleries and shows in London, winning awards and moreover being actually SEEN and enjoyed by others.

So with that in mind, this week I am running a giveaway. I was approached recently by Hello Canvas and asked to review one of their products. They also agreed to donate a gift certificate for a 20×28 print to canvas. Just follow the instructions on the rafflecopter  app below.

its snow big deal…..Country Kids..

hahaha…see what i did there…

🙂

yeah well, when it comes to snow in a city, whats the first thing that everyone does?..that is after buying up EVERY.SINGLE. sledge in Sports Direct…

thats is, head to the nearest hill and throw themselves down it. Sometimes you don’t even need a sledge. One year there were some lunatics throwing themselves down the hill on a ford sierra bonnet. No I am NOT kidding.

During this little snow flurry I have been out once with the kids and my OH has been out twice, one time with the older ones only. Its not the best environment for a small toddler and there are numerous possible injury opportunities. Sledge to the head anyone?

Snow play in the garden seems a WHOLE lot safer when you are little…although then you don’t get to have a tow from a big sister or brother.

Ranty Friday…

So i discovered a new RAWR linky…as dear so and so is no more. I’ve sat down right here at Ranty Friday with MummyBarrow…

1. Dear dog walkers of this town that we call home for now. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD…how hard is it to PICK UP your dog’s crap! You just don’t deserve a dog. Seriously…i think ‘mind the dog poo’ featured in all of my kids first words. Drives me close to distraction. The school run is stressful enough.

2. Facebook (bragbook) friends who are ‘friends’ on facebook and then are rude in real life…..so. not. cool. Unfriend girlfriend *flicks wrists*

3. Dear driver with heavy left foot…i can’t even begin to say how much trouble you have caused us with your foolish driving. A no- fault claim sadly doesn’t mean no damage and im not talking about to the car. My son tells me i should forgive you….hmmmmmmmmmm…..

4. Dear Michael Gove…this is for my over-worked, stressed and stupidly underpaid, conscientious OH who happens to be a teacher…who whilst trying to teach a generation that aspires to ‘just get on the telly’ is now finding out that he has to jump through a hundred different hoops to even maintain his job!

5. Dear Old ladies who like to tutt and suck in their breath when walking past me whilst noticing that my LO’s are not wearing gloves in this cold weather…uh huh…yeah…Please get your sweet little blue rinse selves to my house in the morning and the fight IS ALL YOURS!!!

6. Dear snow and ice. Yes you are pretty ‘n all and cute and oh isn’t it lovely seeing all the instagrammed pics of cute snow folk in the garden. But now is the time to depart. We are, sadly, not in an alpine region nor do we have the wonderful ‘snowplough round the corner’ resources of our Canadian friends. So there will be no skiing frolics or easy commuting through feet of snow. Please get going and let us limp towards spring.

7. Dear college work, hanging over my head again for what seems like the gazillionth time in my life….just give me a minute to fire up the enthusiasm…wait…..hang on…nope..nothin’

8. Dear little black dog that resides with us…i am sorry…no really that you had to ‘loose’ a certain part of you but as you are ‘recovering’ you appear to be a bit whiffy….and a shower is out so stand by for frebreeze 🙂

9. Dear scarily lucky people. Look happy.
