the daily shutter…

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

The daily shutter…

Yesterday on our way back from Beacon fell we stopped a small little hillside farm and picked up some eggs. We stopped just on the driveway, it was nearly dusk but in a little old rabbit hutch by the entrance gate was a box of the most fabulous fresh eggs. There was a small sign by the eggs saying £2.00 for a dozen. Next to the sign was a small money box, held shut by a tape. There were only 6 eggs left..but i popped in £2 anyway. Can you imagine how much SUCH fresh eggs would cost in a supermarket?!

It gave me a bit of a warm glow as we drove away, waving at the farmer who, in the dusk, must have been finishing up for the day. Good that we had an incredible accompaniment to our already planned chippy chips for our tea….that we had given our money DIRECTLY to the farmer and not have some faceless multinational skimming off the top…that in this country there are still places where someone can leave an honesty box outside and totally expect it to be there with all its money when the go and fetch it in at the end of the day.

There was more to those eggs than just eggs….and it was a good feeling..

this new year…

The start of a new year. All of us fall into the habit of thinking how we can change things. Its a universal thought (it would seem). I always do it. Though I am not really that great, in recent years, at making resolutions at all. The inevitable disappointment that comes with not living up to the expectations and demands you have on yourself.

This year a blogger friend mentioned to me that she would be, being involved in a little motivational linky thing and would i like to be part of it. I realised that actually I might like to. Dip a toe into the pool and see if in actual fact the water is warm.

So..resolutions…hmmmm.

You know what, years ago when i used to be a lot more involved in the scrapbooking world (yes..really) there was a trend to choose a word at the start of the year. A word that meant something to you and what you wanted from the year, a word that maybe inspires you, lifts you..gives you an anchor to hang onto or just simply makes sense to where you are, what you are at this year.

So got me thinking…what would be my word. The end of last year was pretty stressful so i was lingering over whether or not to have ‘relax’ or ‘sleep’ even! But instead i have gone with…

an·tic·i·pate

/anˈtisəˌpāt/

Verb
  1. Regard as probable; expect or predict.
  2. Guess or be aware of (what will happen) and take action in order to be prepared.
Why that is my word can and what it means to me i will explain another time…and i might even learn myself what it means to me as i do. I just felt that this word is my word this year and that is where i am hanging my hat.

What about you?

The daily shutter

We went off to the lovely Beacon Fell in Lancashire yesterday. It was a lovely day, the walk was nice, very muddy and we managed to find a few sculptures along the way. My son asked me if he could have my camera and take a few pictures. Making sure he had the strap wrapped around him very tight, setting to auto and lots of ‘don’t run’ ‘remember if you squat down the camera will hit the floor’ warnings. I pretty much left him to it. It was interesting to see what he had shot when i got back. He did pretty well. I did explain to him once or twice about allowing the camera to focus on something and then keeping still otherwise it will blur. Ive chosen this as my favourite, even though i think he focused and then moved as there is no point that is sharp..but i love the composition of it and the fact that we are all in it…just a bit fuzzy..but i think it adds to it. At the start of this little path we had spoken about the difference between light and dark and i think he had listened and was trying to get the feel of going to the light.

good job son.
