Sports day…

that time of year when you spend lots of your free time running up and down a school field cheering your kids on in a variety of weird activities. Really there was carrying a plate of jelly with a ball between your legs???…what happened to the good old sprint races and jumping in a sac, three legged? All retired no doubt for fear of children actually getting a bump or a bruise or the school being sued…..so anyway back to the jelly…..

Isaacsportsday02

no…really there was jelly…

Maisiesportsday01

although not there….Maisie's first time go at sports day….

what i love so much about this shot is that Isaac was sitting at the end of race and in his own world …playing air guitar to Katrina and the Waves..walking on sunshine….and he just caught sight of me…..

🙂

and yep there was a jelly race….as you can see from Isaac's teacher's expression here…

mixing things up a bit in my week…

for the last two weeks of term anyhow…changing Poppy's time at pre school has resulted in her and I having some 'quality time'…..allegedly…..at times it has worked like a treat and at others she has moaned her arm off and driven me round the twist…….

I am always amazed how different the kids are, even though they all started from the same place if you see what i mean. Poppy is just past four and a half now and we find ourselves having to adjust to the changing tides of her character and develop different strategies and methods to cope with the very individual person she is…not that im saying she is any harder or exceptional to the others. just that she presents challenges and obstacles that we havent maybe faced before….which is always a learning process…for all concerned.

In a way i guess you can get a bit blase when you have a couple of kids and assume that they are going to throw nothing new at you….

*insert hysterical laughter here*

yeah..sometimes the auto.jpglot setting just doesn't work….

the first of July

One hot hot day a few weeks back the girls convinced me to take a slow walk home through the local university… It has a little fountain. The kids love it…

And on a hot day it is a refreshing sight! ……

That was until a guy came over and said …
'you can't do that… There's chemicals in there…and they might get hurt.

I said…'really? Harmful chemicals in a public fountain?'

He just looked at me blankly and said 'my boss doesn't want the kids putting their feet in the water…' I said okay and the kids and i carried on home.

It got me thinking has the world of health and safety gone mad….. Or maybe someone just doesn't want to see little kids being little kids…… *sigh*

some when on wednesday….

so yes i am still alive…..i know its been a while since i posted, i checked, over two weeks. Wish i could say i have been waaaaaay to busy to post because of an incredible whirlwind of social engagements and partying the night away….

but…that of course..would be a lie…

and as a mother of four i probably dont even need to say that…

so since you've been gone….(well me)

1. England crashed out of the world cup..in a memorable fashion…my goodness so much gets invested in the fortunes of a couple of football players. We got swept up in it in our house, we had the wall chart. The kids all chose teams and we got together with friends for food and fellowship and watching the game. From that point of view i am sad they are out. We had some lovely times with friends and it gives a point of unity for some people that might struggle to find one otherwise. I love the way sport does that. Mind you, those over paid, indulgent, poor performing players are another thing…and hey i think i would resign if i knew the NHS had to pay me a cool 12 million golden handshake. Our favourite match was the Kiwi match against the might of the Italian team….love a david and goliath match…a commentator said that they players in the kiwi team probably get something like not even a 10th of the salary that UK players get..they played their hearts out..maybe someone should think about giving the England players 'less' ??

2. Soft fruits are in season and i love them, well strawberries in particular….but they are expensive and also hate being moved, carried, packed, next to each other without turning to mush within seconds……

3. Isaac has been to stay with my parents for a couple of days. His school take their year 2 (6and 7 year old) classes on a two day residential..kind of sports camp type thing and we made the decision that it wasn't appropriate really for infant aged kids and also that it was pretty highly priced for what it was. So instead he got a trip to London to spend hours playing in the science museum and explored some historic ships and subs…and he remembered to bring some gifts back for his sisters….they took turns sleeping in his bed whilst he was away…awwwww….

4. We have had some great weather. Sun sun and more sun…well a little bit of rain too..but its been gorgeous and great for playing in the garden.

5. Matilda can say 'yes' 'no' 'isaac' and sing 'twinkle twinkle'. She makes us laugh when she stands at the top of the stairs and shouts 'iiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaccccc'

6. Matilda still has too tiny feet. Her feet are too small for all the cheap option summer shoes…and we are not crazy about laying down a fortune for a pair of teeny tiny summer sandles.

7. We are a few hours from it being July, which means we are a mere few weeks till the end of term. I am probably more excited than the kids..i say that every time don't i…..hmmm..i dont like school…..

8. Maisie is reading 'the folk of the faraway tree' at bedtime. Takes me back. She loves the characters and can tell you all about them one by one.

9. I have been re-evaluating my online reading material and have been deleting some blogs from my feeds that are just not helpful really..its good to have a shake up and sometimes i think 'umm do i need to be reading about this person's life'….and for those of you who shake your head and think 'who wants to read about the day in, day out life of some random stranger anyhow?' that is not what i mean (and er…why are you in fact reading this?)….but i love little details of some folk's  lives….love looking at other people's take on things and moreover their photography..but sometimes relationships move on and change for the season…and there are a couple of them that are firmly not for the season i am now in and so have hit the trash……good to know they might be there to pick up again somewhen….and then maybe not…..

10. Work are in the process of changing our normal 10.5 hour night shift to a 12 hour night shift…..<shudder>……not looking forward to it…..and on the subject of work its time to realise you have been in a job too long when Dr's you remember as juniors come back as consultants…..or maybe that is just about getting old…..hmmmmmm

and finishing off with some pics….pretty self explanantory….
