40….

my brother turned 40 on the same day that Isaac turned 7….i do have a 7 years birthday post for Isaac coming up BUT until Isaac showed up the 12th of this month has always been my brother's day in our family and this year it was the big four zero….incidently..i think always a bad idea to think  "Wouldnt it be lovely if my sister/friend/brother/cousin would have their baby on your birthday.' here why….

1. you have to share your family birthday…and really no-one wants, or in fact probably should have, to do that…and

2. The person whose baby was born on your birthday will forever either be forgetting your birthday or it will be a faint after thought some where through a mad crazy day of birthday plans for their child….

but i digress…..

We all clubbed together and got my brother some prints..Canvas prints..of some pics i took of their newborn babba back in the summer. They came out pretty well i thought.

Here they are before i packed them up to send them..

9 months…

Matilda9mths

that month has bolted by quicker than ever….everything has sped up. I guess factoring in 17 hours of work into my already 24 hour a day workload was going to be a bit tricky. But I am back to work, no longer on maternity leave and pulling my weekly all nighter….yay!…not.

But meanwhile 9 months……
  • Your siblings are calling you Matildie…im not that sure about it..you dont seem to care
  • They pick you up under your arms and swing you like a cat. Almost stops my heart but you seem to love it
  • We think that there may be a few 'da da' coming out now.
  • You shout. I mean just seemingly for the fun of it. 'what you mean if i yell as hard as i can everyone looks at me?' Grreat!
  • You love broccoli…
  • No one gets a smile out of you like your brother. Your roomie.
  • Nursing is getting a bit boring now and there is always something better to look at. Which is fine but can be touch embarassing for poor old mum.
  • The toy that always lights up your face is a plastic ice cream scoop from the kids play food set.
  • You bounce your bed like you are on a bungee cord. Maybe time for the cot soon…
  • Not so bothered about crawling, rolling or any other such movement thanks ever so. We are okay with that.
  •  I have moved you into the next stage car seat, which im not really okay with to tell you the truth…want to keep you in the baby seat for a little. bit. longer. Watching you try and take in all the stuff you can now see out the car window is cute tho..
  • You have sharp finger nails…you rarely scratch your face but this week alone you have done it three times. Little knife sharp nails grow at such a rate ..im always surprised..why dont baby toe nails grow at the same speed? huh? i was just wondering…?
  • You have learnt how much fun it is to hold your breath…yeah your face goes bright red..people smile at you…we all get it..now please stop it….
  •  Today you fell asleep in the car and i carried you around the supermarket in the baby bjorn but in the facing inwards way. You are still my wee baby girl.

ten on tuesday….

1. I went back into the world of work today. A study day..one of those update days where they tell you lots of things you already know and have heard over and over again..such fun! I found myself exhausted by the sheer amount of time and energy i had to put into working out who was going to have the kids while i was at work. Nights might be an uphill struggle sometimes but the huge benefit is that when the kiddies are sleeping i dont have to worry about who is looking after them…

2. It felt like i have never been away 🙁 (from work that is)

3. Isaac developed a chest infection and ended up on antibiotics, he was off school monday and today but seems on the mend. He just about managed to get through his party on sunday and then fell asleep in the early evening.

4. We have some new funky radiators thanks to my dad and ben this weekend. One of those lovely up the wall ones to give us a bit more space. The kids are fighting over who gets to stand against it. Downstairs it is warm:)

5. The phone rang at way past 11pm the other night! Gave us a bit of a fright but then when it was a chap calling from a teaching agency in New Zealand..i thought probably better get used to that! Not all late night calls are an emergency when you have people phoning from different time zones!

6. Poppy is working hard to be the most contrary lady of the bunch these days. Wow-wee she is hard work at the moment. Taking deep breaths….

7. I need more sleep. its official and a little ironic as i have to work all night tomorrow night..ha

8. There is a pile of books and magazines by the side of my bed…all i do is move them around, tidy them up and glance and the covers now and again.before i inevitably fall asleep..do people who have small kids ever finish a book?

9. I made a a cake for Isaac's birthday, it came out quite well i think. My mum helped me do the cars..it took us about 2-3 hours including the clean up..shame we can't charge an hourly rate for that!

When i was pregnant i had a thing for it and loved the smell. Now, obviously, not so much. But tonight, once again, i am surrounded by the smell…

shivery, fever, chills and feeling lousy. Its not great timing, its his birthday on Monday, his party on Sunday and we have visitors over the weekend…..so i am just praying and praying and praying that he improves before sunday and can be part of his party. Poor boy. He has slept in our bed for the past two nights, which is not exactly a joyously comfortable situation. But its no fun feeling lousy by yourself. Not that of course feeling lousy is any kind of 'fun' however many people there are…..

My infection control measures have stepped up. We have drilled the kids (the well ones) and tried to convince Isaac to give Matilda a wide birth at the moment. Just trying the best we can to minimise the effects. We dont know if it is flu of the 'pig' variety, We know it is 'around these parts' so it could be.

For now, he is okay though and, i think, liking the fact that he got to play a good few hours on the wii today. He said to me on the way home from picking up Maisie at school..'mummy, when im ill you say yes to whatever i ask!'

Pretty cheeky but probably fairly accurate. I dont like my kids being sick. It causes me a nearly permenant state of anxiety. It eases when i start to see some signs of  recovery. I like to be on the way out of the valley than on the way in…y'know?

At the moment im not sure whereabouts we are…he seems worse this evening and has developed the chills. So we may still be on the way in. poo…
